Jonathan Albalak
Guitar

Jonathan Albalak was born in 1983. He is a graduate of the Rubin academy of music where he studied composition with Slava Ganelin and guitar with Steve Peskoff.
He composed over 25 scores for film, dance, theater, and T.V and often collaborates with filmmakers from the animation department in Bezalel art academy. Jonathan has won many prizes, mostly in the fields of jazz improvisation and composition for dance and animation.

As a guitarist, Jonathan is on a constant hunt for the perfect blend between different musical languages, styles and sounds and is involved in many different projects: leading his band Monstep, an electronic experimental fusion quintet, for which he composes most of the material. He also formed Migdalego – an original modern jazz group, and Kalapa – an electronic IDM duo. As a sideman he takes part in many jazz and experimental groups, as well as mainstream rock productions.

Jonathan has collaborated with other artists, groups and organizations, such as the Revolution Orchestra (as composer and arranger), the Jerusalem Kamerata Orchestra (as soloist), singer Matisyahu, singer Marina Maximillian Blumin, saxophonist Daniel Zamir, double-bass player and composer Omer Avital, trumpet player Avishai Cohen, producer and trombonist Avi Lebovich, rock artist Assaf Amdursky, Musica Nova Group, bass player/laptopist Jean Claude Jones, the Haifa Septet, dance theater group "Pyromania" and many others.
